Salem’s Jennifer Herndon scored on an offensive rebound with less than a second left to beat the Houston Lady Tigers 32-30 Monday night.
Jessica Herndon hit three 3-pointers and scored all nine of her points in the second half. Houston was without leading scorer and rebounder Erica Keeney, who is battling the flu.
It was an ugly offensive first half. Houston had just four points until senior Shelbi Moore scored a pair of baskets in the final 2 minutes, 19 seconds before the half. Salem led 12-8 at the break.
Houston took its first lead on Herndon’s triple from the top of the key early in the third quarter. The Lady Tigers led 29-26 on Herndon’s 3-pointer with 5:32 remaining in the game, and Moore made it a four-point advantage with a free throw.
Salem tied it 30-all on an offensive stickback with 2:56 left, and neither team scored until Jennifer Herndon’s putback just before the buzzer.
