Supervisor elections for the Texas County Soil and Water Conservation District are planned for Thursday, March 18.
The board consists of five members – four landowners elected by county residents and a fifth person appointed through University Extension. Each landowner serves a four-year term. Every two years a new supervisor election is conducted in two of the four areas.
Nominating committees have been selected in those areas conducting elections. Serving in area II are: Lesly Holt, Pat Buckner and Dale Krewson. Those in area IV are Theresa Woods, Terry Miller and James Woods.
The Texas County Soil and Water Conservation District provides state cost-share assistance to landowners in Texas County to reduce soil erosion and enhance water quality for future generations.
The district is providing more than $345,000 to the county landowners this fiscal year and is staffed by two full-time employees. The board of supervisors is in charge of approving all cost-share contracts, employment and salaries of district staff.
Persons wanting to learn about becoming a nominee can contact the office at 417-967-2028, ext. 4, or 800-879-8894, ext. 4.
