A new principal was selected Monday night at Houston Elementary School, according to Superintendent Dr. Dan Vandiver. He said the name would be released Thursday.

Vandiver said the candidate was offered the position vacated by current principal LeAnn Edington and accepted.

Vandiver said 23 people applied for the position. The applications were screened by a teacher committee and Vandiver. Eight candidates were chosen for preliminary interviews, which consisted of hour-long sessions with both the teacher committee and a panel of administrators, according to Vandiver. Based on the preliminary interviews, four finalists were chosen to interview Monday night with the board of education.
