The City of Houston will develop a long-range plan following the appointment of a chairman for the effort.
The discussion came Monday during a meeting of the Houston City Council.
Mayor Steve Hutcheson appointed Alderman Don Romines to lead the effort. Romines will appoint two other council members for the panel, which is charged with looking at the community’s needs in the coming years.
The board also heard about a Houston Industrial Development Authority effort to lease and perhaps ultimately acquire Oakwood Golf east of Houston. The Zeigler family from Washington, Mo., owns the development.
In other matters, members:
-Learned that the city will receive about $44,000 in grant monies to buy a breathing air system and three radios for the fire department. The purchases are expected to occur in April.
-Received updates on a walking trail project near the Houston Memorial Airport and construction of the city’s wastewater treatment plant.
-Will allow the police chief and economic development head to make decisions related to the purchase of their city vehicle. Information from request for proposals was received from three local dealers.
-Learned that the constructor on the city’s wastewater treatment plant will replace a sewer line that will allow work to begin on Lilly Avenue. The road will run from Holder Drive to West Highway 17.
