Two persons were injured Sunday when a vehicle driven by a Conway man went out-of-control along a nearly 500-foot stretch of North Industrial Drive and West Highway 17 in Houston.
Houston police said Arturo de Jesus Abherve, 18, was driving north on Industrial Drive, ran through a section of the Houston Industrial Park, crossed Highway 17 and came to rest in a driveway at 1355 W. Highway 17.
Abherve, who is known to frequent the Houston area, was taken to Texas County Memorial Hospital and later flown to a Springfield hospital. A female passenger from this area, who was reported as a runaway, was treated and released at Texas County Memorial Hospital.
Police said a witness said Abherve stopped twice to “huff,” an abuse of inhalants. Persons purposefully inhale chemical vapors to achieve an altered mental or physical state, which for most abusers is an euphoric effect.
In addition to Houston police, county and state patrol officers were on the scene.
