Cabool man sentenced to life for part in killing
A Cabool man has been sentenced to life without parole for his part in an ambush killing, according to Douglas County Prosecuting Attorney Christopher Wade.
Elvis Volner, 23, was sentenced last week for the February 2008 murder of Dustin Skaggs, 20.
Along with the sentence for first-degree murder, Volner also was convicted of first-degree robbery and armed criminal action after a three-day trial in June.
Skaggs’ body was found in the trunk of a car in a water-filled quarry near Lebanon.
Volner was one of four charged in ambushing Skaggs. Also charged were Julia Volner, who was 28, her husband Dennis Volner, who was 31, both of Hartville; and Elvis’ brother Benny Volner of Mountain Grove, who was 30.
Authorities believe the group committed the crime because Skaggs had been dating Benny Volner’s estranged wife, Crystal.
Benny Volner was convicted in March and sentenced in May on the same charges.
