A Bucyrus woman reported Sept. 17 that an 8-year-old girl was bitten by a neighbor’s dogs.
The investigating officer from the Texas County Sheriff’s Department reported that the victim and her cousin had walked to the adjacent residence at the Piney Drive location to ask a question. When the neighbor opened the door, two pit bulls tried to get out the door. The owner reportedly tried to keep the dogs back, but they ran out of the house and then attacked the girl.
The officer was unable to make contact with the dogs’ owners, but when he went to their door, he observed two dogs matching the description of the pair that attacked the girl biting the window blinds and the door handle.
Several other neighbors on the scene told the officer that the same dogs have been known to bite children in the past and have killed other dogs.
The victim was treated at Texas County Memorial Hospital.
