Ernest Atwood and Laura Elizabeth Gross Hicock

Ernest Atwood and Laura Elizabeth Gross Hicock of Houston are celebrating their 70th wedding anniversary. They were united in marriage on Sept. 27, 1940, at Christ Church in Philadelphia, Pa., where Benjamin Franklin, George and Martha Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Patrick Henry and Betsy Ross worshiped. Eleven signers of the Declaration of Independence are buried at the church.

The Hicocks have two daughters, Nancy and Jim Gray, Allen, Texas, and Linda and Bill Nagy, Portland, Ore., and two sons, Terry and Anita Hicock, Midlothian, Texas, and William and Joyce Hicock, Jefferson City. They also have nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

The Jadwin families who live in Salem, Jadwin and Eminence are also a very important part of Elizabeth’s life and she considers them her other family.

The Hicocks lived in Eminence for 22 years before residing in Houston the past seven years. Their children plan private celebrations with their parents throughout the year.
