Marwin “Barney” Duane Richards

Marwin “Barney” Duane Richards, 64, son of Earl and Irene (Geyer) Richards, was born Jan. 27, 1946, in Venton, Iowa. He passed away Sept. 26, 2010, at home due to heart complications.

Barney was preceded in death by his parents and several half brothers and half sisters.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, GiGi (Davenport) Richards of Success, Mo.; three daughters, Kimberly Huff of Ozark, Mo., Brook Neal and husband, Jarrel, of Houston, Mo., Lori Dailing and husband, Erik, of Bucyrus, Mo.; six grandsons, Ethan, Cory and Dakota Huff, Stetson and Zachary Turner and his little buddy, Joseph Dailing; one step-grandson, Cody Neal; four granddaughters, Amber Glen, Ashley and Breanna Miller and Courtney Holden; six great-grandchildren; six brothers, Wilbur, Tom, Victor, Billie Jo and Smokey Richards; many half brothers and sisters; and several nieces and nephews.

Barney grew up in the Success area and completed the 10th grade at Houston High School.

He married GiGi Davenport on March 19, 1966, and to this union three daughters were born.

Barney was a member of the Success Baptist Church. He received Christ as his Savior in his early years and remained faithful throughout the years to his service.

He was a wonderful husband, daddy, papo and an excellent provider for his family. He worked any job available to provide for his family. We may not have had everything we wanted but he made sure we had everything we needed …minus a few spankings for us girls (we could probably use a few more of those). He was a very hard worker and retired from Ft. Wood after 20-plus years of service as a heavy equipment operator.

Barney loved to go fishing and hunting when he got a chance, but fishing was his all-time favorite. He loved catching those crappie. He also enjoyed working in the garden.

He loved his family. He liked to pick on the grandkids and great-grandkids and would often do his little jig for us all. He would sometimes get on to us but it was out of love for us all. He wanted the best out of us since we got the best out of him.

Barney was very much loved and will be greatly missed by many!

Services were 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2010, at Evans Funeral Home with Pastor Ted Moore and Gary Davenport officiating. Pallbearers were Ethan Huff, Cory Huff, Dakota Huff, Stetson Turner, Zach Turner and Jack Glenn. Burial followed in Oakland Cemetery under the direction of Evans Funeral Home.

The family respectfully requests that donations be made to the Barney Richards Memorial Fund c/o Evans Funeral Home, in lieu of floral arrangements. Online condolences may be sent to www.evansfh.com.
