Lockwood’s Dylan Urtado makes a leaping interception in front of Houston’s Randy Barker.

The wrong Tigers won on homecoming night.

Behind quarterback Isaac Lasater’s five touchdown passes, the Lockwood Tigers scored on their first seven possessions and crashed Houston’s 2010 homecoming with an easy 47-6 victory Friday night at Tiger Stadium.

It was a disappointing outcome just one week after the Tigers (0-6) had their best effort of the season in a 14-point loss to Ash Grove.

First-year Houston coach David Williams struggled to find positives from his team’s sixth straight loss.

“The effort was bad,” Williams said. “Until we move beyond that, we’re not going to improve very much.”

Unlike the ground-and-pound approach Houston’s first five opponents used, Lockwood (4-1) relied on the right arm of Lasater in its no-huddle, spread offense.

Lasater completed 12 of his 16 passes for 223 yards and touchdown tosses of 12, 5, 48, 57 and 13 yards. He also had a 1-yard touchdown run.

His passing total nearly matched the 266 yards Houston’s first five opponents totaled.

“Their skill players are pretty good for the size school they are,” Williams said. “I was very impressed by them. They executed well.”

Looking for an offensive spark, Williams started junior Jacob Kelley at quarterback. He responded by completing his first six pass attempts and finishing 9-of-13 for 82 yards.

“He gives you everything he’s got and tries to do what you want done,” Williams said.

But Houston’s running game struggled. The Tigers gained 68 yards on 22 carries. The biggest chunk came on Kyle Jones’ 53-yard scoring scamper from the “Tiger” formation — a version of the popular “Wildcat” used in college and professional football.

Williams thought an early injury to offensive lineman Corey Stallcup hampered the running game. Williams said Stallcup will likely miss the remainder of the season with a knee injury.

“The offensive line didn’t play very well,” Williams said. “I think you can contribute part of that to Corey going down.”

Lasater hit Caleb St. John with a 12-yard pass on Lockwood’s opening possession. After the Tigers punted, Ryan Sconce capped an eight-play, 84-yard drive with a 1-yard run to make it 14-0.

Facing third-and-4 on its second possession, Houston lined up in the Tiger formation with former quarterback Jones in shotgun formation. After taking the snap, he faked a handoff to Drake Bell and raced 53 yards down the left sideline for the Tigers’ lone touchdown.

Lockwood twice scored touchdowns the next play after Houston turnovers. After Jones was picked off, Lasater connected with Brady Sears for a 48-yard score. Kelley lost a fumble on the next possession, and Lasater hit Dylan Urtado with a 57-yard score one play later to make it 35-7 at the half.

Houston committed three turnovers — all leading to touchdowns.
