CABOOL — Thayer used a 17-2 third quarter run to pull away from the Houston Tigers in a 65-49 victory Monday in the opening round of the Cabool Holiday Tournament.
The 13th seeded Tigers face Couch at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday.
Despite managing one first-quarter field goal and trailing 11-3 early, Houston (1-6) pulled within a point on Curry Van Horn’s layin midway through the third quarter. Thayer answered with six straight points and scored 17 of the next 19 to build a 42-26 advantage.
Van Horn hit four 3-pointers and scored 15 of his team-high 18 points in the second half. Weston Walker added 11 points.
The Tigers were 9-for-21 at the foul line.
