A Houston Police Department officer became involved in a high-speed pursuit early Friday of a Cabool woman on U.S. 63.
Just after 2 a.m., the officer responded to a call about a suspicious vehicle driving around near a Houston business.
The officer made contact with the driver of the vehicle, a red Mitsubishi Eclipse, in a parking lot at Emmett Kelly Park. The woman was unable to produce a driver’s license or proof of insurance, but verbally identified herself to the officer.
While the officer waited for the results of a routine license and warrant check, the woman drove away at a high rate of speed without stopping at the intersection of Fourth Street and U.S. 63, police said.
The officer pursued the car as it continued on U.S. 63 at speeds of more than 100 miles per hour until terminating his pursuit about a mile south of Houston.
Texas County dispatch then advised the officer that the woman had an active Springfield warrant for stealing.
At about 4:30 a.m., the officer was advised by Cabool police that an officer there had just been involved in a similar high-speed pursuit with the same vehicle.
The officer’s report said that a warrant application would be forwarded to the Texas County prosecutor’s office for charges of failing to stop for a posted stop sign, operating a motor vehicle in a careless and imprudent manner and resisting arrest by fleeing.
The following are other matters dealt with last week by Houston Police.
Feb. 17
¬¬–James C. Pokorny, 42, of 6271 Highway DD in Houston, was issued a citation for failure to register a motor vehicle after an officer noticed the blue 2001 Jeep Cherokee he was driving southbound on Thomasville Road at about 8:50 p.m. had expired tags.
A computer check confirmed that they had expired in December 2010.
–Nadatha S. Walker, 20, of 8065 Mineral Drive in Houston, was issued a citation for failure to register a motor vehicle after an officer noticed the tan 1998 Plymouth Neon she was driving northbound on Oak Hill Drive at about 7:30 p.m. had expired tags.
A computer check confirmed that they had expired in December 2010.
–William L. Wilson Jr., 25, of 19528 Wildwood Drive in Houston, was issued a citation for failure to register a motor vehicle after an officer made a traffic stop after noticing the taillights were not working on the green 1992 Saturn he was driving northbound on U.S. 63 at about 10:20 p.m.
Upon further inspection, the officer noticed that the 2010 expiration sticker on the vehicle’s license plates had been shaded with a black pen to resemble 2011.
A computer check confirmed that the plates were actually registered to another vehicle and that the tags had expired in December 2010.
–An officer reported that on Feb. 8 the asset protection coordinator at the Houston Walmart Supercenter had observed on surveillance video a woman stealing a PS-3 game console box. The video showed the woman, from Columbia, appearing to put the unit in her bag and then exit the store without attempting to make any purchases.
The same woman had previously been caught shoplifting at other Walmart stores and had been advised of the store’s trespassing notice. An asset protection worker in Salem produced a photo her.
The matter was to be forwarded to the city attorney to request municipal warrants for her arrest.
Feb. 20
–Kevin W. Fielder, 47, of 8084 Whetstone Drive in Mountain Grove, was issued citations for driving while intoxicated and speeding after a traffic stop on Bryan Street near Chestnut Street.
At about 1:25 a.m., a caller had advised Texas County dispatch that she believed a man who had just left a U.S. 63 convenience store was intoxicated.
An officer made contact with the man and smelled alcohol. A breath test was administered and came back positive. Before pulling Fielder over, the officer determined he was exceeding the posted speed limit by 10 miles per hour.
Fielder was taken to the Texas County Jail and his vehicle was towed.
