A limited number of tickets are available for a 52-week gun raffle.

An effort by The Animal Shelter of Texas County to control the cat population resulted in 168 brought in to clinics across the county Friday, the organization said.

Persons could travel to county veterinary offices to receive a spay or neuter for their cat. Organizers said the Two Mauds Foundation presented a grant enabling the shelter to support the effort.

“The number of cats altered shows that people are becoming more aware of the need to spay or neuter their animals and are eager to do so,” said Beth Butch of the animal shelter. “This has always been a goal of TASTC.”

Friday, March 18, will be the next reduced spay/neuter and rabies day for dogs. Call a veterinarian’s office to schedule an appointment.

The organization also had success Friday evening at a benefit auction that aided it. Newkirk Auction Service at Licking hosted the event to support the South Central Correctional Center’s “Healing Paws” program that pairs animals with inmates. TASTC thanked those who donated items, participated and the auction company that donated its time and proceeds.
