Sam Crisp, 76, of Cabool, died Sunday, Feb. 27, 2011, at his home.

He was born Dec. 3, 1934, in Memphis, Tenn., son of Sam A. and Emma Bradley Crisp.

He was raised and attended school in Memphis. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1952 and served until his retirement in 1987. He served during the Cuban Missile Crisis and three tours of duty in Vietnam.

He was a member of the Marine Corps League 1184 of West Plains, serving as the commandant for two years. He was also the Toys-for-Tots coordinator for three years and expanded it in to Wright and Texas counties. He was a member of the Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Houston and the Men’s Christian Soldiers Group.

He enjoyed traveling, going to Branson and reading.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three children, Linda LaFrancouis, Richard Crisp and Sam Crisp, Jr.; a brother; and four sisters.

Survivors include his wife of 25 years, Robbie Crisp of the home; his daughter, Cindy Rinehart of Bloomingdale, Ga.; a son, William T. Crisp of New York; three step-children, Darcey Gartrell of Parker, Colo., Danita Young of Hartville and David Zumwalt and of Windsor, Colo.; 13 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 3, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Houston with Pastor David Kettner officiating. Burial with full military honors was in Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Springfield under the direction of Elliott-Gentry-Carder Funeral Home.
