A screenshot from a video taken outside the Houston Herald last Wednesday shows Karen Heavlin leaving a machine with copies she allegedly did not purchase.

A Houston woman was cited last week after allegedly stealing newspapers from a machine outside the Houston Herald.

Karen S. Heavlin, 40, of 314 Broadway St., was recorded on video last Wednesday paying for one newspaper and then taking six outside the Herald office on Grand Avenue. She was cited for stealing under $500.

An employee of the Herald stated that the machine had been coming up short for several weeks and that Heavlin was suspected of being responsible and had been previously told to stop taking extra papers. She was finally cited after her most recent offense was recorded on video that was submitted to police as evidence.
