Military veteran

Ober Dale Turner, 86, died Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2011, at his home.

He was born May 6, 1925, in Fredrick, Okla., son of Ober and Zenobia Wallace Turner. He and Jean Northcutt were married Feb. 3, 1950, in Odessa, Texas.

He served in the Army from January 1946 to April 1947. After leaving the military with a bad knee, he began construction work and traveling all across the country.

While in Eureka, Calif., in 1957, he and his wife, Jean, renewed their faith in the Lord as Savior. He became an ordained deacon in 1959 and taught Sunday School and evening Bible classes for many years. He served at First Baptist Church of Summersville from 1993 until the time of his illness in 2011.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Ernestine Jordan.

Survivors include his wife, Jean of the home; a son, Truman Dale of Florida; a son, Terry Gene of Summersville; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; four sisters, Hope Owens, Treva Dyer, Georgia Johnson and Freda Sells of the Houston, Texas area; and many nieces and nephews.

Services were Saturday, Dec. 3, at Summersville First Baptist Church with the Rev. Tommy Boyd officiating. Burial with military honors was in Oakside Cemetery under the direction of Bradford Funeral Home.
