Marie Lea Cantrell, 88, died Friday, Nov. 25, 2011.
She was born April 7, 1923, in Bunker, daughter of James and Rachel Tinker Lea. She married James Jones. He died in a car accident. She and Lexie Cantrell were married in 1957.
She was a member of the Assembly of God Church. She received Christ as her Savior as a young child. She was active in church, serving as a Sunday School teacher. She was given an award from the church for being an ordained wife, mother, grandmother, care giver and prayer warrior.
She loved making quilts for each of her children and grandchildren. She also loved going shopping at the antique malls buying several antique dishes.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, James “Jimmy” Jones; and a daughter, Lena Mae Fleming.
Survivors include her husband of 54 years, Lexie; five daughters, Wanda Hebblethwaite, Donna Schmidt, Nancy Hayes and Debbie Land of Houston and Betty McKinney of Salem; four sons, Jerry Jones, Steve Cantrell, Ricky Cantrell and Bruce Cantrell; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services were Monday, Nov. 28, at Houston Assembly of God Church with David Meade officiating. Burial was in Pine Lawn Cemetery under the direction of Evans Funeral Home.
