Several events are planned Saturday during 'Spring Fest.'

Family fun is planned for Saturday in Houston as “SpringFest” is held on the chamber grounds on North U.S. 63.

A variety of fun — ranging from free games to a barbecue contest — are planned by the Houston Area Chamber of Commerce, sponsor of the event.

Here is a rundown of activities:

•Landmark Bank Family FunFest – lots of free fun, including tug-of-war, bounce house, inflatable rock climb and obstacle course; face painting, balloon animals, watermelon eating and ice cream making contests.

•Second annual car show – Registration is 10 a.m. until noon; awards at 2 p.m. Recognition is planned in seven classes plus best of show, people’s choice and firemen’s choice.

•TCMH Health Fair – 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. at community building. See an ad in this week’s Messenger for additional details.

•Entertainment by Miles from Nowhere Band, performing 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.

•The Animal Shelter of Texas County dog show. Registration runs 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. There is a $5 entry fee, six different “dogegories”: Small, medium, large, talent, costume and star of the show. The show begins at 12:30 p.m.

•Wiener Dog 500 – Registration at 10:30; show starts at 11 a.m. $5 entry fee per dog.

•Motorcycle cruise-in organized by Texas County Food Pantry.

•Numerous vendors and concessions.

•Third annual barbecue contest: $20 per team for first entry; $10 each additional entry. Categories: poultry, noon; ribs, 12:30 p.m.; pork, 1 p.m.; and beef, 1:30 p.m. Prizes will be determined by number of entries. Special People’s Choice Award for Best Overall and special presentation for best side dish and dessert.
