A West Plains man was charged with three offenses in Texas County on Saturday, Jan. 31.

Following a traffic stop at about 6:30 p.m. June 17 on Sam Houston Boulevard, a Houston man was arrested and issued four citations by the Houston Police Department.

An officer made the stop after observing a red Ford F-250 that was violating city ordinance by creating a noxious and offensive odor and causing a traffic hazard by obstructing normal vision, according to a report.

After making contact with driver of the truck, the officer smelled alcohol and field sobriety tests were conducted.

When asked for identification, the driver – Charles M. Edwards, 42, of 214 Ozark St. in Houston – handed the officer another man’s driver’s license as if it were his. The officer also reported observing four children inside the truck.

Edwards was cited for driving while intoxicated, presenting the driver’s license of another as his own, driving with a suspended license and four counts of endangering the welfare of a child.

He was taken to the Texas County Jail.
