(Editor’s note: This continues a series of profiles related to those seeking office in the Aug. 7 Primary Election).
By James Sigman
With Aug. 7 fast approaching, I feel it is important to introduce myself to those who don’t know me and ask for the continued support of those who do as I seek the office of sheriff of Texas County.
My name is James Sigman. I am an officer with the Cabool Police Department. I am a 14-year veteran of the department and would like to take the experience and leadership qualities I have developed into the position of Texas County sheriff.
Some of you may remember me as a former Texas County sheriff’s deputy. I had the privilege of working for sheriffs Johnny Vandiver and Dean Belshe both as a full-time and part-time deputy. During my years of service I have logged thousands of hours investigating a full range of crimes. Through those investigations and the teamwork of other law enforcement agencies, there have been innumerable arrests and convictions as a result of the hard work and dedication to my chosen profession.
My desire to be the sheriff of Texas County developed not long after I graduated from the Drury Police Academy in 1995. I was working under Sheriff Johnny Vandiver at the time and he was such a positive role model, that I knew someday I wanted to follow in his footsteps and lead our county as the top law enforcement officer. In January 2011, my wife, Leigh Ann, and I made the prayerful decision to make that a reality in 2012.
When elected, I will be a hard-working, hands-on constitutional sheriff. What exactly does that mean for you? I will do everything within my power to protect what you have worked for your whole life. I am a sixth-generation Texas County resident and protecting this county is not only important, it is personal. My wife and I live on a small farm outside of Cabool with the two youngest of our five children. I want our children to be safe and to be able to raise their families here, if they choose to do so.
I have heard many Texas County residents voice their desire for changes within the sheriff’s department. I want to be a part of those changes; however, I am not running my campaign based on whom I will or will not fire. What I am running on is my integrity and the professionalism I will bring to the office.
I want the residents of Texas County to be proud of their county law enforcement, respect them and feel respected by them. I also want all residents to feel safe and to know that their calls for service will not go unanswered. I will be a sheriff with high moral character, Christian values, and I will be available to the citizens of Texas County. I humbly ask for your prayers and would appreciate your vote on Aug. 7 in the Republican Primary.
