A Raymondville couple has donated $50,000 to Texas County Memorial Hospital’s “Care for Your Future” Capital Campaign.

Kay and Chuck Golden contributed to the $3.2 million capital campaign project to build a new surgery department and tornado safe room at TCMH. The additions will be about 10,000 square feet of new patient care areas.

“We are glad to help make this hospital project a success,” Chuck Golden said

He cited the importance of institutions like hospitals and schools to “strong communities.”

“I think it’s great that we have a facility like TCMH,” Golden said. “It’s not hard to support the vision and the progress that we see at our hospital.”

The Goldens bought 5,100 acres in the Raymondville area in 1978, creating a western-themed ranch for people of all ages to visit. In its heyday 1,100 people descended on Golden Hills to ride horses on more than 150 miles of trails and roads, explore caves or an ancient Native American village, swim or just relax in rural Texas County.

Over the years, visitors to Golden Hills have also used the hospital for everything from minor accidents to major illnesses and injuries.

In addition to trail rides and family and individual activities available at Golden Hills, the Goldens are also selling blocks of land for homes in the area. Twenty-one homes are located at Golden Hills, and there are plans for 120 homes.

“It’s very important to the people that are moving here to have a hospital nearby,” Golden said.

He said he promotes the proximity of TCMH to those interested in real estate in the county.

The Goldens have a history of giving to TCMH going back to a donation of professional gym equipment to start the TCMH Fitness Center in the 1990s. Giving is also an important part of the Golden’s personal belief system.

“Giving, not getting, that’s what Jesus was all about,” Chuck said. “We are blessed to be able to give and to have enough to share with others.”

Golden also encouraged others to support the Care for Your Future campaign.

“Any time we have the opportunity to help our community, we are helping ourselves,” Golden said.
