Texas County continues to burn as dry and hot conditions consume the area.

Here’s the latest weather overview provided by the National Weather Service:

Drought and fire

Drought conditions and record or near record heat, along with low humidity, have dried out vegetation across the region. Sparks from fireworks, equipment, cigarettes and outdoor fires can easily ignite surrounding vegetation. Fires can spread quickly.

Other than localized thunderstorms Saturday, the vast majority of the region will see little rainfall through the end of the week.

Burn bans

Burn bans extend to state and federal conservation lands, as well as the communities of Cabool and Licking in Texas County.

Excessive heat

The persistant heat will continue through Saturday with daily high temperatures and heat index values reaching the upper 90s to near 104 degrees. The prolonged nature and cumulative effect of the heat will heighten the risk to heat-related illnesses, if proper precautions are not taken.

A heat advisory is in effect through Saturday.
