A man accused of killing his wife at their Cabool business last year will stand trial in January, court records show.
Daniel W. Chapman, who is held in the Texas County Jail, is charged in the August 2011 death of his wife, Sandra, 55. He is charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action.
His attorney withdrew and a public defender, Donna Holden, entered the case last month. The trial is Jan 17-18.
According to a court records, the Chapmans were inside the gas station on U.S. Business 60, when a gentleman pulled up to the door. He told authorities he took two steps toward the business before he was waved off by Dan Chapman, 56. The witness said Sandy Chapman ran toward the front door, and he saw Dan Chapman fire a shot at her with a black semi-automatic pistol.
The witness said he heard at least four more shots fired as he ran for safety at a nearby car wash.
After about five minutes, the witness told police he saw Dan Chapman leave the parking lot in a truck. It was the last eyewitness account of Chapman’s whereabouts. Chapman was later arrested in Colorado.
