William Carl “Will” McVicker, 86, died Monday, Aug. 13, 2012, at St. Francis Hospital in Mountain View.
He was born March 3, 1926, in Montier, son of Robert Alexander and Ruth Mattie Eagan McVicker. He and Lura Ray “Tootsie” Nolte were married June 16, 1949, in Salem, Ark.
He spent his childhood years in Montier and Panther Springs in Oregon County. At age 10, he moved to the Inwood/Oakside area in Shannon County.
He served in the Navy from June 30, 1944, to March 14, 1952. Upon leaving the Navy, he took over the family lumber business that included a sawmill and pallet mill.
He was a member of Oakside Community Church. He was saved at a revival held by Pat Cronk and was baptized in the Jacks Fork River with his wife, Tootsie.
He was a founding member of the Pine Crest Gun Club and a member of the Mountain View VFW.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gigging, hunting mushrooms and entertaining others by standing on his head.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Carl Dee; a brother, LeRoy; and two sisters, Genevieve McVicker, and Faye Gregory.
Survivors include his wife, Tootsie; xx children, Sue Vance and Billy McVicker; three grandsons; four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Bob and Tom of the Mountain View area; and many other family members and friends.
Services were Saturday, Aug. 18, at Oakside Community Church with the Rev. Dave McVicker officiating. Burial with full military honors was in Oakside Cemetery under the direction of Bradford Funeral Home.
