Jerry Elliott Shannon, 84, died Thursday, Oct. 11, 2012, at the James River Care and Rehabilitation Center in Springfield.
He was born Aug. 26, 1928, in Springfield, son of the late Clarence Derrick “Spike” and Jane Gladys Elliott. He and Lillith June Brixey were married May 25, 1951, in Mountain Grove.
He grew up in Mountain Grove and graduated from Mountain Grove High School. He attended military school in Wentworth and went to Rankin Trade School until 1950.
He worked at Home Building & Loan, Landers & Barker Lumber Company and Mid-America Dairymen/Honeycutt Trucking in Cabool. He retired in 1983.
He was a member of First Baptist Church in Mountain Grove. He served by delivering meals, driving others to doctor’s appointments and teaching Sunday school classes.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three siblings, Clay Derrick Shannon, Patricia Romines and Hannah Jo Woods.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, June Shannon; two sons, Bill Shannon of Taneyville and Bob Shannon of Mountain Grove; a daughter, Susan McGinnis of Rogersville; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
Services were Saturday, Oct. 15, at First Baptist Church in Mountain Grove with the Rev. Gene Edwards and the Rev. Herbert Barker. Burial was in Hillcrest Cemetery under the direction of the Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home.
