Danny Roderick, who will lead Westinghouse Electric Co.

A Houston native has been named president and chief executive officer of Westinghouse Electric Co., a global company with 14,000 employees.

Danny Roderick was named to the post late last month. Roderick graduated from Houston High School in 1978, where he was active in sports and served as student body president. He is the son of Gerald and Mildred James, Houston residents.

Roderick said he has lifelong memories of the area and the people. His wife, Rosemary, graduated from HHS in 1977. Roderick and his family will relocate to Pittsburg over the next several weeks. Westinghouse headquarters is in Cranberry Township, Penn.

Roderick succeeds Shigenori Shiga, who had served as interim president and CEO since April. Shiga will retain his role as chairman of the Westinghouse board of directors.

Roderick has a bachelor’s degree from Lake Erie College and a master’s degree in operations management from the University of Arkansas.

Roderick most recently served as senior vice president, nuclear plant projects, for GE-Hitachi Nuclear Energy. Before that, he served in a variety of positions with Progress Energy Florida and Progress Energy Carolinas. Before joining Progress, he spent 13 years in plant operations and engineering with Entergy Nuclear.

“I am honored to be chosen to lead Westinghouse during this exciting time,” Roderick said. “We have a solid foundation on which to build, and I am optimistic about the future. Westinghouse is clearly the recognized industry pioneer and technology leader, and I pledge that we will continue to make the investments in customer service and technology and product development that will enable us to maintain our global leadership position.”

“Danny brings a broad range of global nuclear energy experience to Westinghouse. He has served in virtually all areas of the business, including new plants, and he also has significant operating plant experience. His experience and management style will complement well the broad range of expertise and capability already on board here at Westinghouse,” said Shiga.

Westinghouse Electric Company, a group company of Toshiba Corp, is the world’s pioneering nuclear energy company and is a leading supplier of nuclear plant products and technologies to utilities throughout the world. Westinghouse supplied the world’s first pressurized water reactor in 1957 in Shippingport, Pa. Today, Westinghouse technology is the basis for approximately one-half of the world’s operating nuclear plants.
