Fort Leonard Wood plans to celebrate Thanksgiving on Thursday with a traditional Thanksgiving dinner to be served at the installation’s dining facilities.

Bill Moffitt, food service adviser with the installation food program, is expecting to serve approximately 10,000 people for the celebratory meal and is planning on serving 26,000 meals throughout the day.

Moffitt estimates that more than two tons of turkey will be served at Fort Leonard Wood that day.  More than 700 food service personnel will work to prepare this special meal.

In 2011, 9,920 personnel were fed Thanksgiving dinner on post; and 4,566 pounds of turkey, 400 gallons of mashed potatoes, 306 gallons of gravy and 2,592 pumpkin pies were served.

The Double Dining Facility, Building 6111, located on Indiana Avenue, is scheduled to be open. The 2012 Thanksgiving holiday meal rate established by the U.S. Department of the Army for service members and their guests is $7.50. Dependents of service members in the grade of E-4 and below are required to pay the discounted holiday meal rate of $6.40.
