Carolyn (Deora) Cantrell, 65, daughter of Nick Deora and Betty (Harper) Nielsen, was born April 25, 1947, in Chicago, Ill. She passed away Dec. 18, 2012, at home on Houston, Mo.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband, Aaron of Houston; three children, Tim of Edgar Springs, Mo., Rebecca of Houston, Mo., and De’Nice of Plato, Mo.; four sisters, Sharon of Rolla, Mo., Zelpha of Hallsville, Mo., Annette of Doolittle, Mo., and Tessa of St. James, Mo.; nine grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Carolyn was born in Chicago, Ill., and later settled in Houston, Mo. She graduated from Houston High School in 1965. After high school, she married her high school sweetheart, Aaron Cantrell, on March 19, 1966, at Oak Hill Church in Houston, Mo., and to this union three children were born.
Carolyn was a member of Faith Fellowship, Houston, Mo. She received Christ as her Savior in her early teens and remained faithful throughout her life. She was active in the Women’s Group at Faith Fellowship.
Carolyn was an Administrator of five different nursing homes. She just loved taking care of her residents. Later, she began working at The Division of Family and Senior Services. She worked there for 18 years. She was also a member of the Sheltered Workshop Board for 17 years and president for 10 of those 17 years.
Carolyn loved her family. She loved to watch her grandchildren play sports and would travel all over Missouri and other states to watch them play. She was their biggest fan. When she wasn’t at a sports event she would sit and make hats, scarves, and blankets for many.
Carolyn was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and friend She was always looking for ways to help her family and friends. She felt that God had given her each day to enjoy and live for Him. She will be missed, but we know that she is celebrating and enjoying the beauty of Heaven.
Services were 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 22, at Evans Funeral Home with Amy Dickens and Beth Hicks officiating. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers were Jerry Snyder, Terry Miller, Kevin Silveus, Rodney Douglas, Dennis Bartlett and Wendall Calhoun. Services were under the direction of Evans Funeral Home.
