Firemen from two departments responded Christmas Day to fire at the Huggins fire station.

Firefighters from two agencies responded just before noon Christmas Day to a report of a fire at the Huggins Rural Fire Department station on Highway AH in western Texas County.

Huggins Fire Chief James Bates said that the fire was started by a spark from a wood burning furnace, and that nobody was in the building at the time.

Bates said someone driving by noticed smoke coming from the building and called 911 to report it. Firefighters from Plato and Huggins responded, and damage was limited to a small area near the furnace.

“The firehouse wall got a little singed, but it wasn’t anything serious,” Bates said.
