Frances Osterbur Yancey, 91, died Jan. 29, 2013, at Kabul Nursing Home.
She was born Feb. 11, 1921, in Champaign County, Ill., daughter of John and Anna Behrens Osterbur.
She spent her childhood in Ridgeville, Ill., and attended Onarga High School. She attended and graduated from Bradley University in Peoria, Ill. She moved to Chicago to work in a research department of Armour & Co., where she met Bob Yancey.
Eventually they lived in Paxton, where Bob owned the Shelby Grain Company. She taught home economics for many years at Paxton High School. During that time, she obtained her master’s degree from the University of Illinois .
In the 1970s, she joined the county extension service in Hardin, Ill., where she and her husband lived until she retired. They then moved back to Paxton.
She was an active member of First Lutheran Church in Paxton. In the late 1990s, she and her husband moved to Cabool, where they could live closer to family as they battled health issues.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of more than 50 years, Robert Lee Yancey, in 2007.
Survivors include four children, Leah Matthias, Marla Magiera, Janice Daniels and Rob Yancey; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a brother, Lewis Osterbur.
Memorial services were Saturday, Feb. 2, at Elliott-Gentry-Carder Funeral Home with the Rev. Terry Brown officiating. Burial at a later date will be in Paxton, Ill, under the direction of Baier Family Funeral Services.
