Military veteran

June Hagler, 90, died Sunday, Feb. 17, 2013, at Mercy Hospital in Springfield.

He was born June 7, 1922, in rural Dent County, son of William Linzie and Bessie Tyree Hagler. He and Lura Crow were married June 24, 1945, at her parents’ home in Licking.

He served in Navy during World War II. He enlisted on Oct. 1, 1942, in St. Louis and was discharged on Oct. 1, 1945.

He was baptized into Christ in March 1955. He was a member of the Church of Christ until his passing.

He loved his church family and had many friends in the Licking community. He was a lifelong resident of Licking until December 2011, when health problems required him and his wife, Lura, to move to Springfield to be near their son, Byron, and his wife, Dana.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing and watching baseball with family and friends. He loved watching the Licking and Springfield high school teams, Drury University baseball and St. Louis Cardinals baseball. He enjoyed daily visits at Hood’s Frosty Treat. He had many good friends at the Cambridge Retirement Community in Springfield.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, John, Dorse, Marshall and Gene Hagler; and three sisters, Eunice Gross, Ruby Bergum and Maxine Pepmiller.

Survivors include his wife, Lura, of Springfield; a son, Byron Hagler, of Springfield; a grandson; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Clarice Berry of Potosi and Bessie Marie Rohrich of Green Valley, Ariz.; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Services were Saturday, Feb. 23, at Licking Church of Christ with Larry Tubbs officiating. Burial with full military honors was in Licking Cemetery under the direction of Fox Funeral Home.
