A county man early this month reported to the Texas County Sheriff’s Department that an unknown suspect had pointed a gun at he and his cousin.
A written report submitted last week by a deputy indicated that on Feb. 8 he had investigated a report of property damage and assault at a Highway 137 residence at Willow Springs.
The officer stated that the man who owned the property told him that he and his 30-year-old cousin had seen an unfamiliar Dodge truck on his property that had caused damage in the yard and to a swimming pool.
The cousin reportedly told the officer that he had seen a man near the truck, who had jumped into it and sped off. The cousin stated he followed the vehicle to try to get its license plate number, but it stopped in the middle of the road, and a man got out, opened the passenger door of the cousin’s truck, and punched a passenger in the vehicle several times in the face. The cousin said the assailant then grabbed a Mauser rifle out of the vehicle and pointed it at them, before heading south on Highway 137.
There are no suspects, and investigation of the matter continues.
The following are other matters dealt with last week by the sheriff’s department:
Feb. 10
––A man called at about 11 a.m. to report that there were two suspicious vehicles on his Valley View Road property, along with two adults and seven teenagers. An investigating officer stated in a report that the ground at the location was muddy and there were no tire tracks, indicating that nobody had actually been there.
Feb. 11
––A woman called at about 5 p.m. to report that her car had been stolen from the parking lot of a Highway B business at Raymondville. An investigating officer determined that the broken down vehicle had actually been towed away by a local towing company.

––A woman called to report that her neighbor’s dogs were chasing her horses at her Clear Springs Road property. An officer advised the neighbors to keep their dogs up.

The officer determined that a 53-year-old woman and a 44-year-old woman had been drinking and become involved in an argument and physical altercation. Neither wanted to pursue charges, and the officer transported the younger woman to a friend’s house so the two could be separated for the night.
Feb. 14
