Military veteran

Robert Richardson, 74, died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2013.

He was born June 16, 1938, in Shannon County, son of Norman Preston Richardson and Grace Marie Hicks. He and Kay Norris were married April 25, 1964.

He was active in the Summersville community. He served as an alderman, vice president of the community center and member of the Revitalization and Action Board of Summersville.

He served in the Army from October 1961 to October 1963.

He enjoyed assisting at the Summersville Senior Center. He loved hunting with his sons, Mark and George, and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He could often be found fishing, cutting wood, doing volunteer work and helping others.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Kay Richardson, of the home; two sons, Mark Richardson of Summersville and George Richardson of Springfield; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; 10 siblings; and a host of nieces, nephews and other family members.

Services were Monday, Feb. 4, at Bradford Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Tommy Boyd officiating. Burial with military honors was in Bethel Cemetery.
