The Houston school board unanimously approved extending the contracts of all three building principals during last week’s monthly meeting.
In closed session, board members extended the contract of Jeremie Akins, middle school principal, through the 2013-’14 school year. The contracts of Amy Dill, elementary principal, and Charlie Malam, high school principal, were extended through 2014-’15.
The board also extended the contract of Jody Jarrett, assistant high school principal, through 2014 and Lillian Collins, director of the Exceptional Child Cooperative, through 2015.
Also at last week’s meeting, board members:
––Set the 2013 graduation ceremonies for 4 p.m. Saturday, May 11, at Tiger Stadium.
––Approved the 2013-’14 academic calendar. The first day of school will be Aug. 15.
––Accepted a bid from Gentry Construction of Houston for construction of a 100×80 foot storage facility and associated concrete at a total cost of $125,053. Superintendent Scott Dill said the building, which will be constructed in the open lot behind the middle school gym, will consolidate the district’s equipment into one central location. It will also include office space for Dan Backus, head custodian, and Ken Kautzman, technology director.
––Added a middle school student council stipend to the extra duty schedule beginning next school year. The stipend is on the three-percent schedule with a starting salary of $817.50.
––Hired Maygen Ward as an elementary teacher through the remainder of the current school year.
––Accepted the resignation of Tanya Bathon as middle school cheerleading sponsor.
––Approved Donna Hoggatt, Heather McClinton, Johnathan Hall and Bonnie Peterson as substitute teachers and Janet McCown as a cafeteria substitute for the remainder of the school year.
The next board meeting is 6 p.m. March 12 inside the conference room at the Exceptional Child Cooperative.
