The Houston City Council discussed placing an officer on the school district campus during a meeting last week.
Superintendent Scott Dill met with the six-member council to begin discussions about a school district-city partnership to address security on the campus. Dill said he wanted to begin the dialogue by meeting with the council. Several schools already have an officer assigned to their districts.
The discussion comes after districts across their country are assessing their security needs. Licking School District this month approved several capital improvements and technology that will give Troop G access to its security camera.
The Houston council will review the matter and make a decision.
In other matters, members:
—Learned that a report on the routine annual city audit is expected in April or May.
—Discussing postponing an Oak Hill Drive sidewalk project until 2014 when the city would be able to take advantage of lower asphalt costs when a plant is located at Houston. Bids will be sought to make a decision.
—Heard new banners have been ordered for electrical poles downtown.
—Brad Evans, a Houston Police Department officer, asked for council approval and received it to pursue a MoDOT grant for the purchase of new radar detectors.
