Devin Coulter and Amber Sillyman received the top honors at Sunday’s annual Houston High School athletic banquet hosted by the booster club.
Coulter, a junior, and Sillyman, a senior, were named the HHS male and female athletes of the year. Nominees are selected by the coaches and chosen by the booster club.
Houston Herald Editor Jeff McNiell received the Larry Southern Award, given annually to a person who supports Houston’s youth.
The banquet, held inside Hiett Gymnasium, honored all teams and players from the 2012-’13 school year. Students received their letters of participation awards from their respective coaches. All-conference and all-district selections were also honored.
Coulter and sophomore Olivia Woosley received sportsmanship awards from the Missouri State High School Activities Association.
Three HHS teams handed out individual awards for the season. Recognized were:
FOOTBALL
- Best defensive lineman: Kolby Walker
- Best defensive back: Coulter
- Best linebacker: Drake Bell
- Most improved defensive player: Austin Keeney
- Best special teams player: Coulter and Tyler Smith
- Best offensive lineman: Curtis Woolsey
- Best offensive back: Kaden Miller
- Most improved offensive player: Lueck Wright
- Leadership award: Weston Walker
BOYS BASKETBALL
- X-factor award: Aaron Cantrell
- Best defensive player: Tanner Smith
- Best offensive player: Coulter
- Anchor award: Kolby Walker
- Leadership award: Weston Walker
GIRLS BASKETBALL
- Most outstanding JV player: Shelby Cremer
- Hustle award: Kayla Herndon
- Most improved: Sillyman
- MVP: Kylee Elmore
