Elvin Wade

Elvin Thomas “E.T.” Wade, 85, son of William and Althea (Hamrick) Wade, was born Aug. 15, 1927, in Slabtown, Mo. He passed away to be with the Lord, March 31, 2013, Easter Sunday, in Houston, Mo.

Elvin grew up in the Slabtown and Raymondville area, graduating from Houston High School. He joined the Army on Dec. 20, 1945, and was honorably discharged Dec. 7, 1946. Elvin taught school in Texas County until 1953, when he moved his new family to Taft, Calif., to work in the oilfields. He spent the next 30 years working in the oilfield for Standard Oil Company, and then established several of his own businesses, while also working as the Production Superintendent for General Crude until his retirement in 1980.

After retirement, he and Ardith moved back to the Houston area, where they opened Wade Shoes for a short time, while Elvin built a house on what is now called the Rocking 4W Ranch, south of Houston because his first love –– besides his family –– was working with cattle and horses.

Elvin married Ardith Ann Hinkle on April 3, 1949. From that union, four sons were born: Tim, 1950, Paul, 1953, Mark, 1955, and Matthew in 1957. After 49 years of marriage, Ardith passed away. Elvin married Bernita Kauffman Liechty on July 1998, a wonderful addition to the Wade family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Azle and Evan; and sister, Jeannette.

Elvin is survived by his wife, Bernita; sons and families, Tim and wife, Claudiam of Cody, Wyo., and granddaughters Kristin Wade Hyatt (Ken) of Highland Ranch, Colo., and Adrienne Wade Contreras (Dan) of Highland Ranch, Colo., and great-granddaughter Kennedy Contreras, Paul and Mary of Bakersfield, Calif., grandson Matthew (Lindi) of Bakersfield, Calif., and great-grandson, Dante and great-granddaughter, Presley and granddaughter, Amy Wade Crosby (Ryan) of Boise, Idaho, and great-granddaughters Kate, Lola and Dagny, Mark and Cheryl of Fillmore, Calif., grandsons, Evan (Meagan) of Dallas, Texas, Grant (Brande) of Fillmore, Calif., Harrison (Karen) of Fillmore, Calif., and granddaughter Ariana (Nick) of Joshua Tree, Calif., and great-grandson, Jivan, Matthew and Judy of Taft, Calif., and grandsons, Ryan of Taft, Calif., and great-grandson, Tristen, Jason (Camilla) of San Diego, Calif., and great-grandson, Mattias. Also survived by brother, Buck Wade, of Houston, Mo., and sister, Mildred Altman of Lakeland, Fla., and other family members.

Elvin will be missed by all that knew him. He loved the Lord and served in various positions at Faith Fellowship. He also enjoyed ministering to young men that helped work his cattle operation at the Rocking 4W Ranch, south of Houston.

Services were 2 p.m. Friday, April 5, 2013, at Faith Fellowship Church with Pastor Bill Villapiano officiating. Pallbearers were Ryan Wade, Jason Wade, Matthew Wade, Evan Wade, Grant Wade, Harrison Wade, Kristin Hyatt and Josh Green. Burial with full military honors was in Mt. Pisgah Cemetery under the direction of Evans Funeral Home.

The family respectfully requests donations be made to Heifer International, www.heifer.org or Gideon’s, in his honor in lieu of floral arrangements. Online condolences may be made to www.evansfh.com.
