Fort Leonard Wood

An organization based in the Fort Leonard Wood area known as Battlefront 2 Homefront (B2B) will host its inaugural “Welcome Home Spring Picnic” event this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the fort’s Nutter Field House.

B2B is a non-profit organization designed to assist National Guard, reserve, veterans and their families in Pulaski County and surrounding counties. Founder Marla McGowan, a Houston native, said B2B is partnering with the Veterans Administration and the FLW Warrior Transition Unit to put on the event.

Planned activities include hunting and fishing demonstrations for disabled vets, and hunting, fishing and outdoor sport vendors will have exhibits set up. Also during the event, veterans and active duty soldiers have the ability to sign up for VA benefits and make connections with different groups that support the military. McGowan said about 500 attendees are expected.

“This event is being held for the first year to reach out to so many soon-to-be, new and old veterans who do not know they are entitled to a large amount of resources,” she said.
