Four people face charges after being accused of illegally detaining a man during a land dispute.
The Texas County Sheriff’s Department said the foursome, who allegedly detained a 36-year-old man against his will on Highway H property in Tyrone in an incident involving firearms, could be charged with felonious restraint. A report was sent to the county prosecutor for possible charges.
The sheriff’s department was dispatched to the property at 7 p.m. last Wednesday. An investigating officer reported the four people involved in ownership of the land claimed a man who had been leasing it had broken an agreement. They were at the scene trying to prevent him from harvesting hay.
The foursome reportedly had more than one firearm being used as a deterrent. They claimed to have a restraining order against the man and stated they were holding him until the officer arrived.
The man told authorities the four had come to the field, chased him around in their trucks and threatened to shoot him. A shotgun and a pistol were seized.
All of the parties involved were taken to the sheriff’s department for interviews.
Two of the suspects – a 54-year-old man and 20-year-old man – are also suspected of stealing numerous bales of hay from the lessee (with a total value of $5,850). Probable cause statements were sent to the prosecuting attorney seeking charges.
