Raymond Leroy Stilley, 71, son of Raymond and Eleanor (Gourley) Stilley, was born Aug. 29, 1941 in Bado, Mo. He passed away suddenly June 8, 2013, at Texas County Memorial Hospital, Houston, Mo., after experiencing an abdominal aneurism.
Leroy is preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Linda and one brother, Jerry.
He is survived by his wife, Marjorie, of Bucyrus; three sons, Roger Mayfield and his wife, Lesia, Kevin Stilley and his wife, Angie, of Houston, Mo., and Scott Stilley and his wife, Cathy, of Willow Springs, Mo.; one brother, Lowell Stilley of Bucyrus, Mo.; five sisters, Janet Blevins of Springfield, Kay Dillion of Houston, Mo., Ermal Wondergem of Greenville, Mich., Brenda Kinserlow and Debbie Stilley of Bucyrus, Mo.; 12 grandchildren, Azure’de, Ashley, Matt and Kyle Mayfield, Amanda Rossignol, Dustin Kirkman, Tyler, Jasmine, Hunter and Parker Stilley, Amanda and Kelsey Beavers; and five great-grandchildren, Skylar Kinnaird, Gavyn and Garrett Barnes and Joel and Grace Rossignol.
Leroy grew up in the Bucyrus area. He attended the one-room White Rock Grade School. There were five children in his grade. Leroy said it was a great learning experience because the younger ones were taught their lessons while listening to the older ones. You learned your lessons as well as theirs. He never forgot this great example of learning from your “elders”. He graduated from Houston High in 1960.
He met Marjorie Mayfield in 1965 and before the year was over they were married in November. They enjoyed 47 years together. He became a Journeyman Electrician and was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) for 43 years.
Leroy was a member of the Oak Hill Christian Church. He loved to garden and loved to can what he raised. He was the “pickle” maker of the family. Everyone loved Leroy’s pickles. He fished and hunted all of his life until recent years. He was a father, grandfather and great grandfather above all.
Services were held 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 11, 2013, at Evans Funeral Home with Pastor Jeff Arthur officiating. Pallbearers were Roger Mayfield, Kevin Stilley, Scott Stilley, Matt Mayfield, Kyle Mayfield, Tyler Stilley, Hunter Stilley, Parker Stilley and Dustin Kirkman. Honorary pallbearers were Ashley Mayfield, Amanda Rossignol, Kelsey Beavers, Amanda Beavers, Jasmine Stilley and Azure’de Mayfield. Burial was in Dykes Cemetery under the direction of Evans Funeral Home.
