Virgil Marcus Scheets, 80, son of Randall Marcus and Piney Pearl (Sirdoreous) Scheets, was born Aug. 28, 1932, in Yukon, Mo. He went to be with the Lord on June 12, 2013, in Houston, Mo.
Virgil was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother Billy Scheets.
He is survived by his wife, Wilmadene, of Yukon; two sons, Mark and wife, Pat, of Summersville, Mo., and Jeff of Yukon; two granddaughters, Angela Lisle and husband, Chad, of Yates Center, Kan., and Allison Williams and husband, Mike, of Gardner, Kan.; one great-granddaughter, Eden Lisle; one sister, Delma Preissle of Houston; two brothers, J.W. and wife, Clara, of Houston, Mo., and Benny and wife, Geneva, of Cabool, Mo.; and many more wonderful family members and friends.
Virgil grew up in the Yukon area and attended Houston High School. Virgil met a pretty young girl in the Yukon area that lived just across the field. Her name was Wilmadene Bailey. There were many trips made to her home across the field and in 1956, they were married. This was a love that lasted 56 years. To this union two sons were born, Mark and Jeff.
He entered the U. S. Army on Nov. 25, 1953, and was honorably discharged Nov. 23, 1955.
He went on to the University of Missouri at Columbia and received his Bachelors Degree in Vocational Agriculture Education. He continued his education at several other universities and had a Masters Degree in Counseling and Specialists Degrees in Administration. Virgil taught VoAg in Bakersfield, Mo., for four years. He then moved his family to Waynesville, where he was Counselor and then Principal. Five years later, Virgil and family moved to Houston. He was High School Counselor and later Principal. Virgil retired from Houston after 21 years of service. He helped, encouraged and guided many young people. He cared for each individual and always had a listening ear and a compassionate heart.
After retiring Virgil, decided he needed another job. He walked into Evans Funeral Home and was hired on the spot. He was an answer to prayer. Virgil worked with the funeral home for over 10 years.
Virgil loved the Lord and was saved at a young age. He was a member of the Ozark Baptist Church. He was a Sunday School teacher and was also a Deacon.
Virgil loved his farm, taking care of his beloved cattle and riding any John Deere tractor!
The dearest things to Virgil were his family. Getting together to eat, sing, (out of those brown songbooks) and just have a lot of good conversation was a highlight of his day. His granddaughters were a joy to him and with the arrival of Eden another element of pride and joy came.
Virgil was a good husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend to many people. He will be missed by the many people he loved and knew.
Services were 2 p.m., Saturday June 15, 2013, at Ozark Baptist Church with the Rev. John Wisdom, the Rev. Kendall Ford, the Rev. Kenneth Gibson and the Rev. Randle Scheets officiating. Pallbearers were Darrell Scheets, Cory Scheets, Darren Scheets, Jake Scheets, Randy Scheets, Aaron Scheets, Ronnie Scheets and Rob Haney. Honorary pallbearers were; Chester Herndon, David Branson, Bill Beasley, Robert Stringer, Mark Harper and Willie Johnson. Burial was in Big Creek Cemetery under the direction of Evans Funeral Home.
Memorials in his honor may be made to the Houston Alumni Scholarship Fund or Big Creek Cemetery.
