The Animal Shelter of Texas County is at full capacity, according to Rita Romines, shelter president.

Romines said Wednesday that the facility is virtually buried in cats and dogs, as the usual summer pattern of increased volume is again taking its toll.

“It’s been like a three-ring circus around here lately,” she said. “This happens every summer – there are a lot more unwanted animals to deal with. We always appreciate it when people call us first before bringing in animals, but we would appreciate that even more now. We’re housing animals in every corner of our building.”

Romines said donations to the non-profit organization (that receives no government funding and exists solely by way of fundraising, grants and donations) are always welcome, as are volunteers to help with many kinds of tasks.

Adoption fees at TASTC are: $45 for cats, $25 for kittens, $100 for dogs and $125 for dogs that have gone through the Healing Paws program at the Licking prison.
