Elvis Orren Brinkley, Jr., 86, of West Plains Mo., died July 24, 2013.
He was born Dec. 4, 1927, in Pritchett, Colo., to Elvis Orren Brinkley Sr. and Veanas Oleatha Moody Brinkley, who have since passed away.
As a young man Elvis had been a wheat farmer in Baca County, Colo., then he lived in south-central Missouri, where he worked at Western Telephone Company for 24 years. During those years Elvis was active in Kiwanis and the Chamber of Commerce in Cabool. He traveled in his later years and resided in Alaska and Hawaii. He was very clever and capable with mechanical things and people were always amazed at some of the craftsmanship he exhibited. Some of the things he made from wood are quite unique. He always had a love of the outdoors and a fondness for animals. His faith in the Lord kept him through many difficult many years and through many trials. At the time of his passing, he was a member of Central Church of Christ in West Plains, Mo.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Paul Brinkley and C.L. Brinkley; his wife, Ruby Esther Brinkley; his wife, Rose Marie Brinkley; and by one granddaughter and one great-grandson.
He is survived by his sisters, Belva and Lois; his daughters, Kitty McKnight of Fordland, Mo., Betty Ice of Houston, Mo., and Sherry Hendricks of Cabool, Mo.; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were July 25, 2013, in West Plains, Mo., under the direction of Carter Funeral Home, Inc.
