James Cordell Stone, 89, died Sunday, June 30, 2013.
He was born June 17, 1924, in Reward, Calif., son of Oscar and Vida Deason Stone. He and Fairy Foley Stone were married in May 1946.
He traveled to the Ozarks with his parents and other family members in a caravan of Model T vehicles when he was 3 months old. The family settled on the family farm west of Licking. He attended Bethlehem School until 8th grade and proceeded on to Licking High School.
He lived near the original family farm with his wife. He was a school bus driver for three decades in the 1960s through ’80s.
He enjoyed quail hunting in his early years, bluegrass music, tending livestock and spending time with his family. He loved horses, especially Maggie, who lived for 31 years.
He attended Free Will Baptist Church in Licking and was an active member for as long as he was able.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Fairy; a son, Ron of Licking; a grandson; two great-grandsons; and other family members.
Services were Wednesday, July 3, at Fox Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Darren Morris and Pastor Harry Foley officiating. Burial was in Williams Cemetery.
