A 5K run and other activities, including law enforcement officers in a dunking booth, on July 13 in Houston will benefit the police department’s campaign to bring a K-9 dog to the community.
The event at Emmett Kelly Park will include the race for both kids and adults, food, a bounce house, face painting and K-9 demonstrations.
The race –– titled The Fast and the Furriest –– begins with the kids’ race at 7:30 a.m., followed by a walk and run for adults at 8 a.m. Cost is $25 for adults and $15 for children. A t-shirt is included for those who register by Friday.
Following the race, the department’s new drug dog, Rooke, will participate in a demonstration for the public. Other K-9 dogs and officers, including Josh Campbell of the Rolla Police Department, will perform.
Food and drinks will be served at 10:30 a.m. All activities are at the upper pavilion of the park.
Houston police took possession of Rooke this week and will continue training with him and Officer Brad Evans until his duties begin. They are fundraising $10,000 to pay for his purchase and other needs associated with the animal
