Police fundraiser

The public is invited to participate in many activities, including dunking members of the Houston Police Department in a dunking booth, during a fundraiser Saturday benefiting a new K-9 dog.

The highlight of the day is a 5K-9 walk/run beginning with a kids’ race at 7:30 a.m. and adult race at 8 a.m. But that’s just the beginning of the day’s activities. Also scheduled Saturday at Emmett Kelly Park:

  • K-9 demonstrations from multiple police departments, including Officer Brad Evans and Houston’s new drug dog, Rooke, at 9:15 a.m.
  • A dunking booth featuring Houston police officers. The schedule is: Corporal David Kidwell (10 a.m.), Sergeant Tim Ceplina (10:30 a.m.), Officer Matt Woodmansee (11 a.m.), Officer Dustin Hartman (11:30 a.m.) and Officer Brad Evans (noon).
  • Multiple kids’ events, including a bounce house, face painting, snow cones and money machine.
  • A bake sale and lunch of hamburgers and hot dogs.

All proceeds from the day will aid an effort to raise $10,000 for Rooke, who will serve as a drug dog in the community beginning this fall.
