The Ozark Mountain Amateur Radio Club participated Saturday, June 22, in Houston in the American Radio Relay League annual Field Day event.
The club set up in the front yard of Pizza Express. For the emergency operation contest, they only used portable radios and antennas running on 12-volt batteries, using solar panels and a generator for charging.
They operated as a class 3A station and had three radios on the air. There were 15 amateur radio operators participating. Two operators Beth Mikels
(KDØHAV) and Shannon Ferguson (KDØHAV) worked all night making contacts throughout the United States and Canada.
The weather was not too bad this year with some nearby thunderstorms, but no rain. The club members also enjoyed a picnic that evening with hamburgers, hotdogs and brats.
