The Houston R-1 School District reports a 4.6 percent increase in student enrollment on opening day.
The school said 1,067 students attended classes on Thursday’s first day –– 50 more than the 2012 total.
The breakdown of students was: 454 elementary; 221 middle school; and 392 high school. There were 23 more elementary students and 32 more in the high school to begin 2013. The middle school had a decrease of five students.
