Houston's city council met Monday and discussed a variety of comments.

Members of the Houston City Council received an update Monday on Rutherford Park from an engineering firm.

The development is planned off Westwood Drive near the Houston Memorial Airport. Archer Engineering of Rolla is the engineer. The city recently approved a design plan.

The council also is exploring entering into a five-year agreement with the firm for engineering services. Larry Sutton, city administrator, reported that fees would be locked in under the agreement.

In other matters, members:

—Approved a donation for a $500 donation to a golf tournament at Oakwood Golf.

—Heard from Darrell Vandivort, who retired Aug. 1 after a 42-year career with the City of Houston.

—Discussed the city’s recent boil-water order, procedures that were used to correct the problem and notify the public.  The problem was sparked by a line break near Grand Avenue and Spruce Street.

—Authorized hiring an employee who will work in various departments when needed, including the water-sewer, electric and public grounds departments. The city will advertise the position.
