Iva Retta Adey, 91, daughter of William and Myrtel (Burris) Breeden, was born July 5, 1922, in Hartshorn, Mo. She passed away Sept. 17, 2013, in West Plains, Mo., after a long illness of congestive heart failure.
Iva married Melvin Adey in 1937 in St. Louis, Mo. To this union four children were born, Joyce, Dannie, Dale and Joanie.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Melvin in 1963; five brothers, Arnold, John, Clifford, Charlie and Paul; two sisters, Ethel Leist and Roxie Wolff; and three great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her children, Dan Adey and wife, Georgia, Dale Adey and wife, JoAnn, and Joyce Meizler, all of Houston, Mo., and Joanie Adey of Liberty, Mo.; one brother, Bill Breeden of Houston, Mo.; 12 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and a host of relatives and friends.
Iva spent her entire life in the Arthur’s Creek community in Houston, Mo. She and Melvin ran the Bandy’s café for three years, then built Adey’s café. After her husband passed away, Iva took over the mail route and carried it until 1982, when she retired. Iva also worked part time at the Lazy L café and Southern Inn restaurant after her retirement.
She accepted the Lord in 1964 and was a member of the First Free Will Baptist Church. She attended church as long as she was able.
She will be missed by those who knew and loved her.
Services were 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 20, 2013, at the Houston First Free Will Baptist Church with Danny Delcour, Delbert Gayer and Wesley Wallace officiating. Pallbearers were Kyle Adey, Brian Adey, Mark Meizler, Mike Meizler, Robbie Wildhaber and Greg Thomson. Burial was in the Arthur’s Creek Cemetery under the direction of Evans Funeral Home.
